No breaking news. Just honest stories from the sea — under the watchful eye of Captain J.J.

Our story

We came to Disney Cruise Line the way a lot of empty nesters do — quietly, a little sheepishly, wondering if a Disney cruise was still “for us” now that the kids were grown. The answer, it turned out, was an emphatic yes. Possibly more yes than before, because now nobody was arguing over which shore excursion to book.

Captain J.J. came aboard on our first sailing. He was a gift, he had a window seat, and by the time we docked he had reviewed the cabin, assessed the pool deck situation, and issued a formal verdict on the Pirate Night buffet. (Three anchors. He had notes.) We started photographing him everywhere — partly as a joke, partly because he genuinely improved every photo — and somewhere between our first and our third sailing, a blog started to feel inevitable.

So here we are. The Magical Navigator. Captain J.J. presiding.

Captain J.J.

Toy giraffe. Seasoned Disney Cruise Line veteran. Holder of a nautical title nobody has questioned yet. He has opinions about towel animals, strong feelings about Palo, and is attempting to claim a deck chair on every Disney ship currently in service. His stories are pretty much just sea stories. His credentials are, frankly, none of your business.

Why this blog exists

The Disney internet is vast, well-meaning, and largely identical. Tips for rope-dropping. Ranked lists of snacks. Breaking news about menu changes at a restaurant we’ve never been to. It’s all useful, in the way that a very organized filing cabinet is useful.

What we wanted — and couldn’t find — was something that felt like a conversation. Someone who’d actually done the Alaska itinerary and could tell us what it was like at 6am when the glacier came into view. Someone willing to say that yes, the Concierge lounge is worth it, but only if you’re the kind of person who enjoys having opinions about canapés.

That’s what we’re trying to write. Honest, specific, fun, and occasionally undermined by a giraffe with completely made up stories. Most about cruises, with the occasional park day thrown in when Captain J.J. decides he wants to go see the castle.

Who this is for

Honestly? Anyone who loves Disney Cruise Line and wants to read about it from someone who isn’t trying to sell them a travel package. But if we’re being specific: this blog was made for the couples who discovered DCL when the kids were young and are now rediscovering it on their own terms. The ones who’ve graduated from the pool deck chaos to Palo brunch on a sea day and never looked back. The ones who book the verandah cabin not because they have to, but because morning coffee with the ocean view is genuinely one of the best things in life.

And for anyone else who just wants to know what it’s actually like — not the brochure version. Captain J.J. insists on accuracy. It’s his one professional standard.
